Mariam Coulibaly (Bamako, Mali; 07/10/1997) is a new player for Spar Girona for the upcoming season. The 192 cm, 27-year-old center joins from Club Joventut Badalona, where she had one of the most dominant seasons of her career.
Coulibaly began her professional career with CB Islas Canarias, debuting in the Spanish top division during the 2015–16 season. She then played two seasons in the LF Endesa with Snatt’s Femení Sant Adrià, establishing herself as one of the league’s most promising young centers. In 2019, she moved to France to play for Landerneau, and returned a year later to Spain with IDK Euskotren, where she spent four seasons before joining La Penya last summer.
The 2024–25 season with Joventut Badalona was her best yet in terms of stats and individual accolades: 22 points per game with 61.6% shooting from two, 10.8 rebounds, and a league-leading efficiency rating of 29. She was named MVP of the round 12 times, selected for the LF Endesa’s Best Five, and was a top contender alongside Bibby for the season MVP.
With this signing, the club continues to shape its women’s basketball project for the 2025–26 season, with Mariam Coulibaly as the tenth confirmed player on Spar Girona’s roster.
Statement from Pere Puig, Sports Director:
“With Coulibaly, we were looking for a classic center with strong presence in the paint. On top of that, she’s got a great shooting touch, which makes her even more valuable. She’s an experienced player in our league — although she’ll debut in the EuroLeague Women — and we’re confident she’ll perform at a high level. Her presence will help open up the court for our guards and wings, who will benefit from the space in the up-tempo game Roberto is building.”
