Arica Derris Carter (Los Angeles, California; 07/19/1996) is a new Spar Girona player for the 2024/25 season. The shooting guard, standing at 1.75 meters and holding Azerbaijani nationality, arrives from Perfumerías Avenida, where she competed in the Liga Femenina Endesa and the EuroLeague Women.
Carter developed her game at the prestigious University of Louisville, where she played five seasons (2014–2019) in the NCAA with the Cardinals. In 2019, she was selected in the third round of the WNBA Draft, with the 32nd pick, by the Phoenix Mercury, making her debut that same year.
Her international career began with Nissan CB Al-Qázeres Extremadura (2019–2020) and continued at Movistar Estudiantes (2020–2022), where she excelled and was named Best Small Forward of the Liga Femenina Endesa in 2022. She later played for Panathinaikos (2022–2023). In the 2023/24 season, she started at Hozono Global Jairis and, midway through the year, signed with Perfumerías Avenida, where she also completed the 2024/25 season.
In her last season before joining Spar Girona, with Perfumerías Avenida, she played 27 Liga Femenina Endesa games averaging 11.9 points (45.4% FG from two-point range, 41.2% from three, and 81.6% free throws), 2.5 rebounds, 3 assists, 1.5 steals, and a performance index rating of 11 per game. She also featured in 12 EuroLeague Women games, averaging 10.7 points, 3.5 assists, and a PIR of 10.3 per game.
With her perimeter shooting reliability, playmaking ability, and defensive strength, Carter will bring experience and versatility to Spar Girona’s backcourt.
With this signing, Bàsquet Girona continues shaping its women’s basketball project, with Carter as the eleventh confirmed player on the roster.
Statement from Pere Puig, Sports Director:
“With Carter’s arrival, what we were looking for is a combo guard: someone who can help us both at the point guard and shooting guard positions, a scorer, and a solid defender. She has to be one of the team’s references. We have high hopes for her. She has plenty of experience in the league and is used to taking big shots.”
