Bàsquet Girona and Uni Girona make their union official: A joint project is born to grow basketball in Girona

Girona, June 18, 2025 – Under the slogan United to Keep Growing, Bàsquet Girona and Uni Girona have officially announced their unification in a historic event held at Fontajau. This union is the result of a deep and committed agreement between two iconic clubs that embody the essence and passion for basketball in Girona. The city has witnessed a milestone that marks the beginning of a new chapter for local basketball.

A video showcasing iconic moments from both clubs kicked off the event, recalling the history of the two entities and reinforcing the profound meaning of the union: the strength of a shared journey and a city that lives and breathes basketball.

A PROJECT WITH VALUES

A conversation between Marc Gasol and Cayetano Pérez laid out the foundations of this union, described as both a strategic and emotional decision aimed at growing together, with greater strength and a unified structure.

Gasol emphasized that the integration brings all of Uni Girona’s assets into Bàsquet Girona. This does not imply the disappearance of Uni, but rather preserves its essence, values, and legacy, integrating part of its board into the new Advisory Council of the club, with Cayetano Pérez in charge of the women’s project.

This structure will enhance synergies in areas such as management, logistics, financing, and communication, and will strengthen the “Girona” brand as a sporting reference. Gasol defended this move as a way to ensure a sustainable and competitive model, open to Europe and new sponsorship opportunities, through integral and professional management.

STRENGTHENING IDENTITY, BRINGING TOGETHER FANS

Both Gasol and Pérez highlighted the role of the fans in this new path. The goal is to ensure everyone feels included and that the project reflects the city’s passion and identity.

Pérez stated that this unification represents a great opportunity to secure the viability of the women’s team, to compete at the highest level while maintaining the style and closeness that have defined Uni Girona. “We’re sharing synergies. We’ve been working together for years, and being able to optimize resources will help us grow. The women’s team needed a boost, and joining forces with Bàsquet Girona will provide it. We hope to stay at the top and remain competitive.”

Gasol, in turn, called for trust from fans who may still have doubts: “It’s not just about results. This is a commitment to values, to unity, to joining forces, and to building a solid, recognizable, and rooted project.”

FROM YOUTH TO ELITE

This union caps off a journey that began three seasons ago with joint youth development work. The experience has been very positive and has become the model for this new phase, in which both professional teams will now operate under the same structure. “When we started with the youth programs, the doubts disappeared. We’ve worked hand in hand all these years and the results have been excellent. We’re happy and proud of the path we began three years ago and that culminates today,” said Marc Gasol.

With this integration, the club aligns with other major national benchmarks such as Valencia Basket, Casademont Zaragoza, and Club Joventut Badalona, and positions itself as a unique sports project, committed to development, equality, and excellence.

THE FUTURE IS OURS. TOGETHER, WE ARE GIRONA

One of the highlights of the event was the screening of the official unification video, which brought visuals and emotion to this new project. With a clear and inspiring message — United to Keep Growing — the video marked the symbolic launch of this shared journey.

The event concluded with official photo sessions and a relaxed gathering of all attendees. With this step, Girona establishes a unified city sports project, with future vision, strong local roots, and a firm commitment to development, equity, and excellence.

United to Keep Growing.
